BEST CARE SENIOR/GERIATRIC CANINE: a) Comprehensive Physical Examination - Prior to the physical, we will ask you to fill our a Senior Care Health Checklist. This short questionnaire has 20 medical, nutritional and behavioral questions to help us evaluate your pet. You can fill this out ahead of time by printing & filling out the Senior Care Health Checklist (Click here). We will review your pet's medical & surgical history. We will assess any indications of pain or lifestyle changes. We are looking for physical signs of cancer, arthritis, heart & lung diease, and dental disease. We will look at your pet's eyes, ears, nose, and throat. A dental evaluation will be done. The skin and musculoskeletal systems will be examined including an osteoarthritis exam and joint palpation. A rectal and prostate exam will be performed in dogs of appropriate size. Finally a brief neurologic examination will be done. b) Complete Blood Count - This test helps identify infections, anemia, and certain types of cancer as well as problems with bleeding and the immune system. c) Blood Chemistry Profile including Thyroid function - These blood tests can help pinpoint disease of the liver and kidney and endocrine disorders such as diabetes and hyper or hypothyroidism. d) Urinalysis- A urine sample can help test for kidney disease, diabetes, urinary tract infections and bladder stones and crystals. e) Fecal check for worms - A fecal sample can be checked for internal parasites and bacterial overgrowth. f) Chest X-Rays j) Heartworm/Ehrlichia/Lyme tests
