Animal & Bird Medical Center will be

Closing as of March 16, 2011

We have enjoyed taking care of your pets these past 13 years.  However, the physical demands of the job are significant, and the time is right for me to take a position that is less physically challenging.  I am a "big dog" person at heart, but when our many 130 lb patients seem to weigh 180 and our one 227 lb patient seems to weight 400 lbs, it is time to make an adjustment.

I will be moving out of the area, but will continue to be accessible at katie@animalandbird.com.

We will be taking care of records after March 10, 2011 and will let you know the details of that as the week progresses.

Please be sure we have your email.

If you are not sure we have it - please send it to katie@animalandbird.com

Please be patient with us as we close the clinic.

Getting rid of fleas is a 3 point process:

YOUR PET YOUR HOME YOUR YARD

Getting rid of fleas means you need to kill both the adults and the pre-adults (eggs, larvae) in each of these locations.

This is what Dr. Carpino recommends:

1.        Your Pet:            FrontlinePlus

Apply FrontlinePlus to your pet monthly year-round.  It kills both adults and pre-adults and will prevent an infestation from occurring in the future.  Don’t just get rid of fleas.  Keep them away forever!

Get FrontlinePlus from us to be able to use your coupons.

Go to Frontline’s Website  for more information and coupons.

2.       Your Home:       Bomb with a product that contains an insect growth regulator such as  Raid Flea Killer Plus Fogger

This is just one of many products available that you can get at grocery stores and home improvement stores. Make sure the product has an INSECT GROWTH REGULATOR in it which might also say that it kills pre-adult, eggs and larvae.

Go to Raid Flea Killer Plus Fogger Website  for more information on this product.

3.       Your Yard:

For this I recommend going to a home improvement/hardware store and simply picking a product that specifically targets fleas.  The one challenge we have is that sunlight destroys the pre-adulticide and so you simply need to follow label directions to treat the adult fleas outside.

FINAL IMPORTANT POINT so that you maintain your sanity.

Unfortunately, nothing kills the 4th stage of the flea: The Pupae.  This is like the cocoon stage and so it is protected.  So, sometimes, about 2-3 weeks after you treat your pet, home, and yard, you may notice a resurgence of fleas.  This is “okay”.  Those fleas will live their lives but be unable to produce viable eggs or larvae, and thus break the cycle and put an end to fleas.
